OpenAI Squid partners with ride-sharing operator to develop AI tools

OpenAI has signed a deal to provide artificial intelligence (AI) technology to ride-sharing operator Grab and help build customized tools for the Singapore-based company’s operations.

Touted as OpenAI’s first such partnership in Southeast Asia, the partnership will also give Grab employees access to ChatGPT business in a pilot rollout, according to a joint statement released Thursday. Grab will deploy a synthetic AI tool to select employees in a pilot program as part of its efforts to use AI tools to improve productivity.

Grab offers a range of services through its app, including food and grocery delivery, parcel delivery, ride-hailing, fintech and payment services, and telemedicine. It operates in eight Southeast Asian markets including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

Under the partnership, the company will harness OpenAI’s visual AI capabilities to incorporate more automation and derive higher data quality from visualizations to improve its maps.

These efforts will enable GrabMaps According to the two companies, it will be updated faster and provide a better experience for customers and drivers in its ride-sharing partner network.

Grab will also explore how the company can leverage AI to provide customer support chatbots that help understand and solve problems better.
