Zomato deploys 50,000 electric two-wheelers in the next two years
Food delivery platform Zomato has partnered with electric vehicle energy infrastructure and service provider SUN Mobility to deploy SUN Mobility electric two-wheelers over the next two years. Under the partnership, SUN Mobility will provide battery swapping solutions for last-mile deliveries while initial fleet roll-out will begin in the national capital.
Last-mile delivery partners who have joined Zomato’s platform will benefit from convenient and cost-effective battery swap solutions. Through this partnership, SUN Mobility claims that they will be able to reduce carbon emissions by 5,000 tons/month and contribute to a cleaner environment. The company’s CEO Anant Badjatya said: “The partnership with Zomato is an important step towards achieving SUN Mobility’s goal of building a sustainable and eco-friendly ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Zomato has committed to the ‘Climate Team’s ‘EV100 initiative that implies 100% electric vehicle adoption by 2030, which is a goal that aligns with SUN Mobility’s mission to electrify trips. last mile delivery in India. “Our past and present links with SUN Mobility for battery swaps will accelerate the transition to EV-based delivery, helping us keep our promise of a sustainable Zomato for our customers, for delivery partners, employees and the planet,” said Zomato COO- Food Delivery, Mohit Sardana.
In a separate development, battery-as-a-service (BaaS) startup VoltUp has partnered with BSNL to set up electric vehicle battery swapping stations across the country. In the first phase, battery swapping stations will be set up at four locations across Gurugram, with an infrastructure of more than 150 charging docks. It will then be expanded to 30 more locations across Haryana and other cities later this year.
In a later phase, the partnership will be expanded to major cities with high car density as well as encouraging last-mile connectivity dealers to use electric two- and three-wheelers in everyday use.
