Zelenskiy says up to 3,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed since the Russian invasion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said up to 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since seven weeks of war with Russia and about 10,000 have been injured.

He also told CNN on Friday that 19,000 to 20,000 Russian soldiers were killed in the fighting, now in its eighth week.

Civilian casualties are more difficult to determine, he said.

β€œIt is difficult to talk about civilians, because in the south of our country, where towns and cities are blocked off – Kherson, Berdyansk, Mariupol further to the east, and the eastern region where Volnovakha is – they are. I don’t know how many. Zelensky said.

At a briefing in Moscow on Friday, senior Russian military officials updated their losses in Ukraine to 1,351 troops, adding that 3,825 soldiers were wounded.

One must also be careful about the numbers, as both Russian and Ukrainian sources will under- or over-report losses for propaganda purposes.

NATO estimates that 7,000 to 15,000 Russian soldiers were killed in Ukraine, where fierce resistance from the country’s defenders denied Moscow the lightning victory they desired.

A senior NATO military official said the alliance’s estimate is based on information from the Ukrainian authorities, what Russia has announced – intentional or not – and intelligence gathered from sources. open. The official spoke on condition of anonymity according to basic rules set by NATO.
