YouTube’s new tool makes every video a short like TikTok
YouTube has introduced a new tool that makes it easy for creators to turn regular videos into shorter Videos. community update. If you’ve uploaded any of your own videos, you’ll see a new tool in the “Create” section called “Edit to Short” right inside the main app. It allows you to select up to 60 seconds of video and put it directly into the Shorts editor, where you can add additional video or text filters, and then upload it as a Short Video.
After you upload the Short, it links to the entire video it was taken from the “Generated from” link at the bottom of the video. That allows creators to use Shorts as the primary video’s promotional tool, helping to drive views and engagement. However, this tool only works on your own content, unlike Crop, allows you to remix content from any video.
I tried this tool by creating 10 seconds short from a longer video I created in 2010 and it’s as easy to use as advertised, allowing me to take the best part of the video, embed text and add filters.
The huge success of TikTok has forced all social networks to react in some way. However, Instagram recently added support on its TikTok like full-screen feed and suggested post features after significant backlash from users. YouTube is said to be less threatened by TikTok as it offers longer content that appeals to a wide variety of audiences. However, the new tool shows that it can take the (Short?) pie and eat it by allowing creators to offer Shorts as a form of advertising for their main content.
