The attack on former Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie on August 12, 2022 shocked his fans and friends in the literary world. Reacting to the news when ‘Harry Potter’ author JK Rowling expressed her support for Rushdie on Twitter, she was publicly threatened with death by a pro-Iran extremist.

“Feeling very sick right now. Let him be fine,” Rowling tweeted, expressing her shock over the Rushdie assault.

Twitter user Meer Asif Aziz responded to Rowling’s tweet by writing, “Don’t worry you’re next.” Aziz’s Twitter bio describes him as a ‘student, activist, political activist and research activist’.

In response, Rowling wrote to Twitter officials with a screenshot of Aziz’s death threat. “@TwitterSupport any chance of getting support?”, Rowling tweeted along with a screenshot of the threat.

Rowling later confirmed that police are now involved in the matter, as they have made other threats. “To all sending messages of support: thank you

Police are engaged (have engaged in other threats),” she said in a tweet.

It was noted that Rowling had previously been targeted by a number of transgender activists for gender opinions.

Meanwhile, her new novel ‘The Ink Black Heart’ written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith will be published on August 30, 2022.
