“You tried to kill my son”

Chris Eubank Sr has sent a stark warning to promoters and managers following the messy delay of his son’s fight with Conor Benn.

Eubank Sr was never present with his son to face Nigel Benn in what was billed as explosive rivalry. First, it was reported that he told Junior to wait and turn it into a stadium fight. Then, much more seriously, he expressed extreme anxiety at the amount of weight loss his son would have to endure to meet the terms of the contract.

Eubank Jr weighs 3lb more than he ever had as a professional boxer. As far as his father is concerned, this is not an option. He called it dangerous and said that’s exactly how traumatic brain injuries happened in the ring.

It turned out that in the end Senior’s calls to boycott the war were unnecessary. It was revealed a few days before Conor Benn was found to have banned substances in his system. The doping test was enough for the British Boxing Control Board to ban fighting.

Despite the board’s very clear verdict, backers Eddie Hearn and Kalle Sauerland weighed their options for the fight to continue for about 24 more hours before finally announcing its adjournment. It is this deliberation date that many boxing fans have questioned, believing it should be withdrawn as soon as the test results are known.

Eubank Sr seems to agree. Talking to The fight is right podcast, he expressed his feelings about known boxing entrepreneurs

“You have toddlers taking care of us warriors. Toddlers learn to walk. They call these people managers and promoters. These people, I come for you. You tried to kill my sons. I’m coming for you.”

Although the official streaming has been delayed, more information about the drug test will likely have to be made public before fans join the fray once more. First of all, Benn and his team will likely focus on clearing his name with BBBofC, or risk being banned from the sport.
