‘You have to back players who have talent’: Gautam Gambhir on out of form KL Rahul | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: With a low average of 12.5 in the last 10 innings, of which not a single point is above 25, India opens the test KL Rahul was in flames and received harsh criticism from all over.
After a series of low scores, his place in the typical squad has been questioned but the former India player Gautam Gambhir felt that Rahul should be supported when every player goes through a difficult period.
The 30-year-old had scored 8, 10, 12, 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17 and 1 in the last 10 rounds but Gambhir, his mentor IPL the LSG franchise where Rahul is the captain, felt that it was unfair to just pick the opener.
There have been strong calls to bring in Shubman Gill to play in the XI in place of Rahul.
“KL Rahul should not be dropped from the Indian team. No player should be excluded. Everyone goes through a difficult period. No one, not a cricket expert or anyone told him that he competed. didn’t play well and was eliminated,” Gambhir told PTI during a meeting on the sidelines of the IPL pre-season camp organized by Super giant Lucknow.
The former two-time IPL champion KKR captain also cited the example of current India captain Rohit Sharma on how he was fully supported by the previous team management for him to succeed in the Cricket Test. When Rohit started opening, everything looked for him in the traditional format.
“You have to support players with talent. Look at Rohit Sharma. He also had a difficult period. Look at how he started his career. He flourished late. Compared to (previous period) with his current form. People can see his talent and support him. Now let’s see the results. He’s playing great guns. Rahul can do the same.” Gammbhir seemed confident in his abilities.
Southpaw thinks that if the team is winning games comfortably, there’s no point in tinkering with winning combinations and removing a player for rough treatment.
“India is leading 2-0, not 0-2. So don’t criticize anyone and appreciate the team’s performance. I think the Indian team’s leadership was right to support. for KL Rahul. He’s a great player. He’s scored in international baseball games.”
Regarding the semi-final match of the Indian women’s team against Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup, Gambhir said: “I think India is talented enough to beat Australia. Obviously, Australia is a good team but I am sure that the Indian women’s team is good. “Does have the potential to beat Australia. If you can play those 240 balls better than Australia, the whole team can beat them.”
While the Indian women lost heavily to England in a group stage match, Gambhir felt that they were consistent enough.
“I think the Indian team has been very consistent in the way they play this tournament. Now the occasions are not the issue. You know people will talk about the semi-finals. In the end it wasn’t the occasion, it was. it’s a contest of bats and balls,” he added.
At the opening of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), he said it was a historic step for BCCI. “We keep talking about gender equality. What could be better than having gender equality and I’m sure that will motivate a lot of young girls to start playing cricket and I think WPL can go a long way. long.”
