Via Huck Allen: Errol Spence Jr will return to the war front against Yordenis Ugas in a 50-50 unification fight on April 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The two will meet in the main event of the Premier PPV Boxing Championship.
Ugas, 35, will be the away boxer against Texan Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) in front of his fans in Arlington. There are many boxing fans who write to Ugas, but he has a real chance to win this bout.
One of the top talents of the Cuban national team, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Ugas, can knock Spence down.
We don’t know if Spence’s surgically repaired eye will withstand the wear and tear from the punishment Ugas will receive in this fight.
It doesn’t matter if there is an obvious result, such as a knockout, but if it’s a close fight you have to assume that Spence will be the one to be raised by the referee.
IBF/WBC welterweight champion Spence and 147-lb WBA Super World champion Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) share a familiar opponent, Shawn Porter.
While Spence beat Porter by 12-round decision in September 2019, Ugas lost to Shawn by 12-round decision in March of the same year.
Interestingly, Ugas took fewer penalties and played better against Porter than Spence but lost. You can draw a conclusion why Ugas lost that match.

Last August, Spence injured his eye during a match due to a canceled match against Manny Pacquiao. The wound is now 100% healed from the surgery, and Spence is ready to go back there with Ugas.

Errol, 31, didn’t look stellar in his final game, beating Danny Garcia by unanimous decision at the 12th round in December 2020 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Spence is back from his horrific car crash on October 10, 2019, so it’s conceivable that he’s not in top form. He was thrown from his Ferrari 488 Spider. Luckily for Spence, he didn’t break any bones in the crash. Just lacerations on his face and chipped teeth.
This is the second game in a row for Spence as he returns from injury, and we don’t know how he will perform. Last time, Spence fought well after his car crash, but he may not find the same success.
Ugas was about to have the best victory of his career over superstar Manny Pacquiao last August in a fight that was initially attributed to Spence. Spence’s injury resulted in him being withdrawn from battle and replaced by Ugas.
Looking back, Pacquiao would have drawn when Spence was injured because he had enough time to get ready for Ugas.
Ugas is on track for success with wins over Pacquiao and wins over Abel Ramos, Omar Figueroa Jr. and Mike Dallas since a controversial 12th round decisive loss to Shawn Porter in March 2001.
It was important for Ugas not to talk in his pocket for too long on April 16 because Spence is a vicious body-fist, and he’s going to knock him down.
Some have suggested that Ugas was designed specifically for Spence as he stood still, fighting his opponents. Ugas’ Cuban coach will make sure he changes up his playstyle to make sure he doesn’t fight Spence’s game.
