Yarde (232-2, 22 KOs) said he will be better prepared to challenge 175 lb IBF, WBC & WBO champion Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs) this time than he was when he fought for the title last time. Serge Kovalev in 2019 and sent out in the eleventh round.

Earlier tonight, Yarde defeated Bulgarian Stefani Koykov (14-2, 12 KOs) by knockout in the third round at the Telford International Center, Telford.

It was a good victory, albeit against a lower level fighter. Yarde will be a lot harder to beat Beterbiev because he can punch and he won’t give up anytime soon like Koykov did.

“I hurt Kovalev in the round of 16. I went out in Russia. A lot of things were against me. People fooled me for that fight,” Anthony Yarde told iFL TV about his loss to former WBO lightweight champion Sergey Kovalev in 2019.

“I go out on the pitch with a lot of respect. I want to win the war. A true champion is how he recovers from defeat.

“If I am going to lose a match, I want to lose like that because I gave my best. That’s all you can do is try your best. I will not succumb to pressure.

“I will not run and hide. Now I have calculated more. I said at one point that I wanted to hit him because I was strong and I could hit him. When I hurt him, I will do it. What I learned is to be yourself.

“Everything went into my head. My whole team, we’re in Russia, and I just hurt Kovalev. ‘Oh my God. Swing for heaven.’

“To all of my supporters, thank you. Why did I beat Betterbiev? That’s destiny. Right now, Betterbiev is my focus. There’s a song, ‘Destiny,’,” Yarde said of why he felt he beat Beterbiev.

“I have no opinion. I believe in myself. Everyone will have their opinion. Everyone will have their choice. Muhammad Ali said, ‘I know you chose him, But he’s in trouble.

“The location. I’ll bring my luggage,” Yarde said when asked how this was different from when he first competed for the world title against former WBO lightweight champion Sergey Kovalev in 2019.

“I will have clean drinking water after weighing. I’ll go eat after weighing. Sure,” Yarde said when asked if he’s more prepared to challenge for the world title than he was three years ago,” Yarde said.
