Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Release date moved from September to July

Nintendo pushed the release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 by several months.

When Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is announced earlier this year, Nintendo said it will launch the Switch sometime this September. However, in a new three-minute trailer released by Nintendo today, the company revealed that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will now be released on July 29. A rare move by the company, this could be present a push for at least a month, maybe two, depending on when Nintendo plans to release the game in September, a date we’ll probably never know right now.

“Why are Noah and his friends being chased by ‘monsters’ by the forces of the two countries they attack?”, the trailer’s description suggests. “Witness the birth of mighty forms of Ouroboros, the oversized entities your party can become in battle in this epic sequel to the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will premiere on July 29.”

Nintendo has also shared some new details about what is seen in the trailer:

“The new trailer for the game reveals the setting of the team’s journey in Aionios, a vast and supernatural world of nature, and reveals new details about the combat system:

  • Battle with up to seven characters: Like in previous Xenoblade Chronicles games, battles begin by facing enemies directly in the underworld. Players can control Noah’s party of six, as well as other characters they will meet during the adventure. Each character has their own role in the battle, which allows for the implementation of diverse strategies.
  • Change class: Noah is a swordsman who specializes in close-range attacks, while Mio is a Zephyr, drawing enemies’ attention while dodging their attacks. Thus, each character has its own class with its own strengths. As the adventure progresses, the player can change their character class, creating a custom party.
  • New Link System: Each pair of tag teams – Noah and Mio, Lanz and Sena, Eunie and Taion – can use the Link system if certain conditions are met. They will then combine into a giant form called Ouroboros. Each Ouroboros has its own set of powerful moves, and deciding when to transform can be the key to winning a battle. ”

Nitnendo says the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition will also be available on the My Nintendo Store. It will include full-color artwork from Masatsugu Saito, a 250+ full-color hardcover art book, and a steel carrying case. It’s not currently available for pre-order, but Nintendo says new details about this Special Edition will be available in the future.
