Wreckage of Russian Mi-28 helicopter found outside Kyiv

The wreckage of a Russian Mi-28 “Night Hunter” attack helicopter was found outside the airfield in the town of Hostomel, on the outskirts of Kyiv.

The video shows the helicopter completely disintegrated and broken into many small pieces, except for some parts.

But one photo clearly shows the Mi-28 helicopter’s wheeled landing gear and tail boom.

Apparently, the Mi-28 was shot down during a large-scale tactical amphibious operation, when Russian troops landed at Hostomel Airport, sometimes called Antonov Airport, on 24 February.

This is the second confirmed case of the Russian military losing a Mi-28 helicopter during the war in Ukraine.

On April 1, a video appeared on social media with the moment a Russian Mi-28 Havoc helicopter was hit directly by a MANPADS missile causing it to fly out of its tail causing it to plunge to the ground. It is known that the event took place in Luhansk Oblast.

The Mil Mi-28 (NATO reporting name “Havoc”) is a two-seat Russian all-weather, day and nighttime anti-armor attack helicopter. It was an attack helicopter carrying a single gun in the barrel under the nose, plus the external payload was carried on pylons below the stub.

The Mi-28 has a fully armored cabin, including the windshield, which can withstand the impact of 7.62mm and 12.7mm bullets and 20mm shrapnel.
