World of Tanks Modern Armor Hits Motörhead and Rob Zombie July 30 – PlayStation.Blog
How to make the second act spectacular? Turn the volume up even higher.
This summer, World of Tanks Modern Armor will be in full swing as Motörhead and Rob Zombie take the stage at Metal Fest, the main event of our new Heavy Metal season!
Like all the best music festivals, Metal Fest has become an annual event. Anyone who missed our 2023 headliners (Sabaton, Megadeth and Iron Maiden) is in luck; for a limited time, we’re bringing back last year’s content in all its guitar-shredding glory.
But you don’t just want to relive last year’s epic moments. You want to hear about what’s new. So let’s talk about what made this year’s event special with Motörhead legend and Rob Zombie!
Locomotive
Motörhead ushers in the battle with new content including:
- Thunder Chief Object 452K Tank
- Skin “Bomber” for FV107 Scimitar
- 2D Commanders represents band members Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee
- 3D Commander modeled after Lemmy and the band’s mascot, Warpig
Motörhead were one of the true pioneers of heavy metal. Their style and legend remain highly popular, and founder Lemmy (who passed away in 2015) continues to be revered in the community.
But in addition to bringing Motörhead to global fame, Lemmy was also an avid gamer, and the band was heavily involved in the concepts and ideas for new Tanks content. Speaking about Lemmy 3D Commander, the band stated, “Modern technology has allowed us to fully integrate Lemmy into the game, which seems fitting since this is exactly the type of game he played and loved.”
It’s a legacy that the diehard Motörhead fans on the Tanks design and development team take seriously. “We did a lot of visual research to make sure we were creating the most authentic version of Lemmy we’ve ever seen in a video game, and I think we achieved that,” says Andy Dorizas, Tanks’ art director. “I wanted to make sure we honored the great person he was.”
This dedication is reflected not only in Commanders, but also in the Motörhead tank and skins (“the back of the tank, the amp—you’d know it if you knew it,” says Dorizas) as well as the Warpig 3D Commander. According to Dorizas, “We even let Warpig bring the bomb from the Bomber album cover into the game when you select him in the UI.”
In fact, this is the first time fans will hear Warpig’s voice, a responsibility that falls to another Motörhead fan: Brendan Blewett, the audio director of Tanks.
“Motörhead gave Warpig a clear goal and direction in that they wanted a character that was a cross between a wild, unconventional biker and an English bulldog,” explains Blewett. “I had to think about how to achieve this, and I decided that interpolating audio recordings, combined with adjusting the human voice recordings against other dog vocal recordings, would be my approach.”
So who was chosen to support this iconic role? “My sister-in-law has a puggle named Ollie, and he’s a legendary vocal dog when it comes to snorting, breathing, growling, etc., so the solution came naturally,” says Blewett. “Every single line is a human voice directly modulated with the dog voice.”
Sometimes you have to work hard to make rock and roll.
Zombie Robbery
Rob Zombie appears on the battlefield with new content including:
- Dragula T-55AGM tank
- Skin “Superbeast” for M53/55
- 2D and 3D commanders modeled after the person himself
Zombie is an unparalleled creative force who cemented his status as a dominant force in the shock rock scene with his 1998 release of Hellbilly Deluxe. The Dragula T-55AGM acknowledges this with a design that pays tribute to the album’s lead single.
But Zombie’s career goes much further than that, which means his 3D Commander has to reflect all of his accomplishments and interests.
“We created two designs for his 3D commander,” says Dorizas. “Rob went with a design that was more authentic to Rob and not tied to any album theme… a cool tanker with a sinister style and some serious menace.”
No matter what your favorite acts are, this year’s Metal Fest is all about excitement. Motörhead and Rob Zombie are among the top five acts requested by the crowd, and we’re thrilled to be bringing them to you.
So play hard. We’ll see you on the Metal Fest battlefield starting July 30 on PS5 and PS4!
