Winston Marshall’s career exploded as he praised the work of a gay Asian journalist.
Marshall, a banjo artist with Grammy Award-winning Mumford & Sons, tweeted his support for “Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy” last summer. The book chronicles the extremism, violence, and acts of restricting free speech by the far left in the United States.
“Finally has time to read your important book. You are a brave man,” Marshall Tweeted to Ngowho had previously suffered a brain bleed after a brutal attack by Antifa gangsters.
That message sparked a culture war, culminating in Marshall leaving the band he co-founded in 2007.
Now, Marshall is sharing some of the ugly details of that firestorm.
Musician, now presenter Podcast “Marshall Matters”opened with the Times of Great Britain about failed from his initial support Ngo. Some shocking comments were shared in public.
Electronic punk duo Sleaford Mods have called him a “c***”, an advocate of fascism. Comedian Nishi Kumar calls him “Nazi. ”
Raffish.
Looking back, Marshall has learned a harsh lesson about friendship and how modern artists can be intolerant.
“Especially through this recent experience, I realized that a lot of my friends in that world are not really my friends.”
He said that a number of “world-famous” artists supported him during that period, but they did so privately. Imagine the cultural impact when they go public with their opinions.
They chose the path of cowardice, and Marshall eventually left his own band. It is not surprising. Most of the stars keep quiet when being attacked by their colleagues. Take a look at how some of the celebrities rallied alongside Gina Carano, especially so-called feminismwhen Disney unfairly fired her from “The Mandalorian.”
Other fellow musicians behaved much worse with Marshall, he noted.
“I was surprised at how other artists condemned me,” he said. “I’ve lost a lot of friends.”
Marshall’s crime? Salute a journalist risking his life to document acts of violence that his colleagues overlook or reduce.

The cruelest part of Marshall’s experience?
Some artists will jump into the band of cancellations, ruin their careers along the way, and then forget the devastation they went through.
“I met a few other people who had their engagement annulled, whatever that means, and they talked about a couple of years later who were part of the crowd that got in touch and said, ‘Hey man, are you here?’ They helped destroy your life, but it was done so by accident that they don’t even remember.”
A few brave celebrities paved the way for a better one. Diddy recently threw support behind the “cancelled” musicians Morgan Wallen and Travis Scott.
“As a musical family, none of us are saints; None of us don’t have things happening to them in life,” he told Billboard. “So one of the things I’m doing directly is undoing what’s been cancelled. It was breaking news because people never talked about cancellations. But cancellation is a trend that needs to be stopped.”
Impresario rap is an exception. Too many artists cower when the crowd wakes up to knock out a colleague. Others took their pads and piled them up.
