Insider spoke with a spokesperson from Wingstop, who noted that the company could not comment on the details of the metaverse move, but that “the filing signals an exciting publicity step toward serving the position of world in a virtual place.”
The app reportedly cites “downloadable virtual goods,” including NFTs and virtual food and drinks. It also includes software for trading cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and digital tokens, as well as downloadable rewards cards that can be redeemed for real and virtual world food.
“I think you’re going to see every brand you can think of doing these filings within the next 12 months,” trademark attorney Josh Gerben told Forbes in February. “I don’t think anyone wants to be the next Blockbuster and completely ignore a new technology coming out.”
Panera Bread’s chief digital officer, George Hanson, explains that the company is working to stay abreast of technological advancements, which now include the metaverse.
“Panera has always worked to stay at the forefront of technological advancement,” Hanson told Forbes. “As a brand, we are always looking for new ways to improve the customer experience, whether in our coffee shop or in the supermarket.”
