Windows 11: Tabs in Notepad are on the way
Microsoft has roll out in Notepad into the Windows 11 Insiders Beta Channel after testing last month with users in the Developer Channel.
Notepad tagged was a top requested feature by users and followers who joined several other apps with tabs, including File Explorer and developer apps, such as Windows terminal And PowerShell.
The Notepad feature allows users to manage and organize multiple files by tabs in a single Notepad window, or split new windows by dragging a tab out. The setting allows the user to choose to open the file in a new tab or a new window by default.
The new beta contains many fixes for the Windows 11 Taskbar and system tray, as well as for the Task Manager utility.
Microsoft also released a new version Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25295 to the Dev Channel.
This build brings a copy button to quickly copy two-factor authentication codes in notifications from apps installed on PC or from phone linked to PC.
This feature may not work perfectly yet. Microsoft will do its best to determine if the toast has an authentication code. It may also fail to detect the code in the toast.
It also extends the availability of the next search box on the taskbar. It started testing some ways to get the search box working in the taskbar late last year. Users can change the look of the taskbar search through Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Items.
The main change for businesses is a new commerce policy that allows commercial customers to enable features introduced through service updates. That is, updates such as monthly quality updates in addition to annual feature updates for Windows 11.
These updates are disabled by default for devices that manage updates via policy. This applies to Windows Update for Business or on-premises with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
“While this policy is available for Insider Preview builds in the Developer Channel, there aren’t currently any features in the Developer Channel behind the policy. However, we hope to make it available soon. this policy in the Beta Channel when there are features behind the policy,” Microsoft noted.
