Via Jim Calfa: Tyson Fury will join the fight with Dillian Whyte this Saturday after his fight with Deontay Wider and there are questions about whether he is still the same person he once was.
WBC Heavyweight Champion Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) is fighting the wrong person following the penalty he imposed on Wilder last October.
If Deonty knocks something loose in Fury’s head from his massive right hand that he repeatedly hits him with, Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) is just the type of fighter that takes advantage of that.
Tyson will face Whyte on Saturday, April 23 on BT Box Office and ESPN+ PPV in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Interestingly, Fury confirmed earlier today in his own training that he plans to retire after Saturday night’s fight with Dillian. He doesn’t seem interested in moving on with his career, and that’s understandable.
The 33-year-old Fury suffered a lot of penalties in three matches against Wilder and was lucky to get away with two of them without being knocked down. For all intents and purposes, the first and third matches were knockout wins for Wilder.
After 14 years in the sport, Fury has a net worth of $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, and he’s going to add that number a lot on Saturday.
Fury will be in danger
“Tyson Fury can do anything in this fight. He can stand back and throw his jab and box or he can close the box inside. Lennox Lewis told BT Sport with every thing there is danger.
“If he packed the crate inside, there would be a risk of getting hit by bullets,” Lewis continued. “The guy he’s boxing with [Whyte] will not be launching some punches.
“He’s going to throw some serious punches. He’s got a great hook and a great right arm, so he’s going to want to do that. If Tyson Fury was in that distance, he would definitely throw that,” Lewis said.
“The only chance Dillian has is if he watches Tyson, and the more Tyson stands there and trades like he did in his last two fights. [against Deontay Wilder]Ricky Hatton said.
“Dillian will hit you and put you out. If Dillian pays him, I just wonder how many times he’ll be able to get back up after these heavy knocks. He has to be a little more sensible in this fight. Pick his moments, especially early.
“Let’s get rid of his wounds first, but he has to be extra cautious and show Dillian the respect he deserves. Dillian can hit, man,” Hatton said.
Fury will recycle the game plan
“I think he will do exactly what he did with Wilder,” David Haye told BT Sport on Tyson Fury on what he’s up to on Saturday.
“Motivation, hype and praise, and everyone idolized the way he hit Wilder in his last two games. ‘I want more than that, and I want people to know that I’m ready to go against everyone’.
“I think at first he will find him very uncomfortable, and then impose himself. Watch Povetkin fight, Povetkin knocks him down [Whyte] Going out will give him immense confidence.
“When Fury was knocked down, he was able to get up again. When Povetkin took down Dillian, [he wasn’t able to get back up].
“In [Fury] remember, he has a better chin than him, he’s big, he’s motivated, and he hasn’t fought many good fighters, hasn’t fought any world champions. I believe the momentum is there, and he’s going to put it on Dillian,” Haye said of Fury.
“I think it could slow him down in the later rounds, but he showed that when he’s heavier, he fights better,” Haye said when asked if Fury would be slower if he it’s heavier or the war.
“When he fought Wilder for the second time, I think it was the heaviest weight of his career. The same goes for the third war. He’s so big that a stone here and there doesn’t really make a difference. I don’t mind his weight.
Haye said of Whyte: “The battle he fought with someone of the same size was Mariusz Wach. “For whatever reason, he didn’t impress me that night. He was in Saudi Arabia. He doesn’t look like Dillian Whyte was on the ring with Povetkin at the same time.
“When he’s motivated, he’s very, very efficient. When he doesn’t believe his back is against the wall, he lowers his level. Thank God he’s going in there against the King, Tyson Fury because we know he’s going to give his best,” Haye said.
Dillian is an excellent finisher
Carl Frampton said of Whyte: “He would do whatever he could to win the fight, and when he was in it, he would swing and try. “I will tell you something about Dillian Whyte, better than Wilder. There are few things better than Wilder.
“If he injures somebody, he’s a better finisher,” Frampton said of Whyte. “Wilder, once Fury is injured, he doesn’t know how to finish him off. Fury was able to be smart and hold on, come back and actually win the rounds after he was knocked down pretty badly.
“If Dillian Whyte lets you in and there’s more than a minute left of the round, it’s going to be very difficult to stay there,” Frampton said.
Frank Bruno said: “Once Dillian saw the loophole, he was like a shark in the harbor.
“Those are two boxers at their peak physically at the best time of their careers,” Haye said. “Like Deontay Wilder. Deontay Wilder was the last man to make Tyson Fury look great because he did.
“He had the strength to take him down, but not the precision and technical know-how to finish him off when he was wounded. Meanwhile, Dillian Whyte was able to do body attacks and do his punches when he was injured to end the show. That’s not what happened in the past with Fury.
“His fighting hand down the tube wasn’t bad,” Haye said of Whyte when asked what fight Dillian brings to him that makes him so dangerous to Fury. “I thought the same thing until the first round of the fight with Chisora, and he nailed him in the first round with a big right hand.
“He really sneaks in that left hook into the body very effectively, and his inward punches, his butts. Ask Joseph Parker what he’s like inside. He drew him in really, really, and significantly more than Anthony Joshua did. He did a much better job with him and knocked him down a few times.
Will Fury still be enough to defeat Dillian?
“He always does [throw the left hook],” Haye said of Whyte. “It was his honey punch. So if he can land it, he knows he can change the course of the war.
“He lost to Chisora until round 11. He kept throwing and throwing until sooner or later it landed. So he knows that even if he scores poorly, he still has the ability to knock someone out.
“It was a big bonus for him because a lot of fighters didn’t get that finish. So they just fell into a state of losing and losing continuously in the rounds, on the contrary he always had that belief in himself because he had done it before.
“He certainly has the power to take him down. If Deontay Wilder can’t knock him down with the hits he lands, then I don’t think anyone can,” Haye said when asked if he thought Dillian could take down Fury.
“Can he stop him? Can he hit him with that hit, and he doesn’t fall but falls on the rope, and then he hits him with three or four punches in a row and then the referee jumps in and stops him? block it, yes I think it’s possible.
“My prediction is that Dillian Whyte will go home with a win. I think he’s ready and ready to cause one of the biggest disturbances since Anthony Joshua lost to Ruiz. I think it was a similar situation where very, very few people gave him a shot.
“That really benefits Dillian Whyte. The pressure is no more. He didn’t go there for the press conference, he didn’t do anything. No one is worried about what he’s going to do, but I know he’s working hard behind the scenes.
“We all agree that Fury won all three fights against Wilder,” Frampton said. “The last two fights were pretty brutal. Is it possible that they were a little too harsh on him? “
“The photos he took were the hardest I’ve ever seen was a heavyweight shot and just kept coming. They take something from you.
“How much they beat you isn’t clear, but we’ll find out on the 23rd, we’ll find out when they go head to head,” Haye said of whether three fights with Wilder took anything away from him. Fury or not.
