‘Monster’ forest fire ravages France as it engulfs nearly 7,000 hectares of land in the country – Photogallery
The ‘monster’ forest fire devastated France as it engulfed nearly 7,000 hectares of the country’s land. The French government is enlisting the help of fire brigades from other European countries to tackle the deadly blaze. According to reports, more than 1,000 firefighters, supported by water bombers, are battling a blaze that has forced thousands to flee their homes in the southwestern Gironde region. The wave was scorching hot and the wind was blowing the flames. “It’s a goblin, a monster,” said Gregory Allione from the French fire service FNSPF. Experts say climate change is the main driver behind the heat waves, floods, wildfires and crumbling glaciers in recent weeks across the globe. The head of the European Space Agency, Josef Aschbacher, said rising land temperatures and narrowing rivers as measured from space leave no doubt about the consequences of climate change. Existing conditions will have a negative impact on agriculture and other industries.
