The Philadelphia Eagles are getting quite a bit of attention this season. Various pundits have picked Philly to win the NFC East in 2022 and maybe even made a bit of noise in the knockouts. Pro Football Focus ranked the Eagles seventh out of all 32 NFL listings. But is this Philly hype worth it?

As a so-called Philly hater, I have to admit that I’m buying into the Eagles that are upsetting the balance order in NFC this season. And that’s based on Jalen Hurts’ progression. I think we’ll see a significant step up for Hurts in Year 2 as a full-time starter and a sophomore under head coach Nick Siriani. A giant leap helped Philly win the NFC East title.

Will the weight hurt Jalen’s shoulder?

Matches passed at a rate of less than 210 yards per game last season for a total of 3,144 yards in 15 games. Those stats would definitely need to increase if Heartbreaking plan to take the next step in her growth as QB1.

I’m not saying that Hurts is at a point where the Eagles can live out of his arms like the Chiefs do with Patrick Mahomes or even the Cowboys do with Dak Prescott. Philly needs to trust that Hurts will pass more often. He averaged about 28 passes per game last season. They need to get him into the range of 32-34 times per game.

Prescott and Mahomes have an average of 37 and 38 respectively for their teams in 2021. I don’t think Hurts should throw that far, but Siriani’s offense needs to have him approach those numbers. . It’s great that he can play with his feet, but in a passing league, there will be more matches involved in what he can do with his arms than with his feet.

Adding a legit WR1 in AJ Brown in an off-season trade with the Tennessee Titans can only help, as can second-year recipient Devonta Smith’s maturity.

Defense can still win the championship

Defense is another important aspect for these Eagles. Their defense 10th place of the total number of sizes allowed last year. Where the defense will need to improve is in the carry-out department. Philly finished third among the bottom teams with 16 forced transfers in 17 games.

In a league where nearly half the teams are averaging more than 25 ppg, your defense needs to make more than one rotation in a game to have a real chance of winning consistently, especially if you no elite QB.

The Eagles didn’t do much in freelancing, but they managed to sign the paver outside of Haason Reddick stay away from the Carolina Panthers. Reddick has recorded 23.5 sacks over the past two seasons in Carolina and Arizona. Philly could use help in that department, scoring just 29 bags in 2021, ranking 31st. So this team can use all the passing help they can find.

While the Eagles defended quite well on the pitch, there is clearly room for improvement. Philly defended in the first round of the draft, following the defense inside Jordan Davis from Georgia. Jordan has Impress in the Eagles’ off-season practices and could have been a major contributor to the defense during his rookie year. Bulldogs teammate Nakobe Dean fell to Birds in the third round.

An easy schedule will help

Another big plus on the Eagles side is the power of schedule. The Eagles have the easiest schedule in many rankings. Athletic has NFC East ratings 29-32 on the schedule for the ’22-23 season.

So there’s no good reason why the Eagles can’t win this terrifying match. The Dallas Cowboys should be the only team to worry about, and they haven’t won consecutive titles since the ’90s. The division is there to take. I think the Eagles will win the NFC East this year with a 10-7 record.
