Why the developer of The Callisto Protocol removed “PUBG connection” from the game

Striking Distance Studios, creators of The Callisto . protocol initially announced that the game would be related to PUBG: Battlegrounds “to some extent” in 2020. However, the game development studio confirmed in May that their new horror game will does not have any connection with PUBG Title. The game studio doesn’t even share any details on how this connection will be implemented and how the Callisto Protocol will connect itself to the PUBG universe. Meanwhile, the developer has provided some insight into why they decided to scrap the connectivity plan.
Why did the Callisto Protocol drop the “PUBG connection”
According to a report by PCGamesN, chief technology officer of Striking Distance Studio, Mark James covered the topic of PUBG connectivity as part of a recently concluded Gamescom procedure. James explained that “as the Callisto Protocol evolved, it became more difficult to tell the game’s story and still connect to PUBG”.

Furthermore, he also added that the studio has approached Krafton, publisher of The Callisto Protocol about its plans. James mentioned that Krafton approved the studio’s plan to forgo the connection if it thinks the move will be best for the game.
James also noted that when comparing the universes of both these games, the studio found that there were “400 good years between both games”. He also added that “connection takes away from the Callisto universe. It was hard to tell our story and still make that connection. Furthermore, Krafton understood the issue of how connectivity could affect the game(s) and decided to approve Striking Distance’s plan.
Another report by Game Informer noted Glen SchofieldCEO of Strike Distance Studios and The Callisto Protocol’s game director, stated that the game “outperformed” its PUBG connection.

Furthermore, an older Comicbook.com report recorded Steve Papoutsisthe development director of The Callisto Protocol, who provided some details on the game’s PUBG connection back in June. Papoutsis mentioned things like the game’s melee combat system as well as the idea of having a more talkative protagonist, the report notes.
