Why Queen Camilla wore pink from head to toe at the D-Day event with King Charles and Prince William

Queen Camilla stood out in the crowd Wednesday while attending the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Portsmouth, England. Have a husband with you King Charles III and stepchild Prince WilliamCamilla dressed head to toe in pale pink for the somber occasion, opting for a pale pink Fiona Clare coat dress and a matching Philip Treacy beret.

The Queen was clearly moved by the proceedings at Southsea Common, being pictured in tears as she heard a veteran tell of watching his best friend and brother die on the battlefield all those years ago. She also stood beside Charles as he gave his first public speech since sharing his cancer diagnosis with the public earlier this year, and watched as William gave his own tribute. The king was greeted with a standing ovation and told the thousands gathered to “esteem and honor” those who served and “lived worthy of the freedom for which they died.”

“The stories of courage, resilience and solidarity that you have heard today and throughout our lives cannot help but move us, inspire us and remind us of what we owe to that great wartime generation, now tragically few in number.” he say.

While many people chose dark and military outfits for the ceremony, Camilla’s floral-toned outfit also had special meaning.

First, there is the royal outfit. The first time she wore this outfit on a date state visit to France with Charles in September 2023, perhaps choosing the look as a nod to the country. She is expected to attend the second day of D-Day ceremonies in France on Thursday with her family to pay tribute at the British Normandy Memorial site in France.

The choice of outfit also shows that Camilla follows in the footsteps of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was famous for choosing monochrome outfits so that she could stand out and be more easily seen by the gathered crowd from afar.

Camilla wasn’t the only one who chose pink for Wednesday’s event: Akshata Murtywife of the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunakwearing a petal pink two-piece suit and actor Helen George wearing a hot pink dress accented with ruffles at the neck and sleeves.
