Why iOS 16 Photos app doesn’t show duplicate content for some users
This feature accumulates all duplicate content in one album (Copy album) for users to check and merge sets of duplicate content. Users can also access this album to delete duplicate photos and videos. Some iPhone users who recently updated their smartphones to iOS 16 have been unable to find the Clone album in the Photos app.
Apple has shared a new support document that addresses and explains the issue. Also, the tech giant mentioned ways for users to solve it.
How to get duplicate albums in iOS 16
According to Apple’s support documentation, iPhones must go through an existing library to detect and match duplicate photos and videos.
If you have duplicate media saved in your library, then only the device that can create a Copy album will show up in the Photos app. To initiate the detection process, iPhone users must have their device locked and charging.
Apple has also added that detection can take minutes or even days depending on the size of your library or the tasks running in the background.
Users should also note that duplicate albums will not appear in the “Utilities” of the Photos app if you don’t have duplicates in your library. The Duplicate Album will only show up when your iPhone library has multiple versions of the same photo or video.
