Why I love my heavy label maker so much
I admit that I can be a bit messy. Projects are always moving, items going back and forth to review, things to fix and fix.
Also: You are using super glue completely wrong
And as a result of all this going on, my desk can be a bit… cluttered.
But there is a tool that is fundamental to help me stay organizedand that’s my label maker.
Also: This replaced my all-in-one for a fraction of the cost
But this is no ordinary label maker, it’s an industrial unit that makes really tough, resilient labels.
I’m using Label Printer Brother PTE300and it’s awesome.
Note: My label maker — the one in the photos I took — is the European version sold as the P-touch E300, but it’s functionally identical to the US version .

So why do I love this label maker so much?
First, design.
The large, thick, rubberized QWERTY keyboard is perfect for use with gloves and my stout fingers. I hate nothing more than that label makers have the ABCDE keyboard layout, and what makes that worse is when that layout is used on small keys.

There are also buttons for specific label types or layouts, and even barcode printing.
Along with keyboard inputs, the label generator features date and time printing, and 168 electrically specific symbols as well as audio and visual.
Then there’s the spacious, backlit display. I had a phone with a smaller screen. Along with displaying what will be printed on the label, it also displays information such as font and font size.
No need to squint at this screen.

The PTE300 also offers the convenience of being powered from a power adapter or rechargeable battery. It can also take six AA batteries.
The labels are also industrial labels — they are premium and fully self-laminating tapes designed to resist abrasion, fading and chemicals. They are so tough that I use them to label the bottles that I hold chemicals in.
Oh, and the back of the label is easy to peel off. I have to mention this, because I’ve had so many label makers it’s almost impossible to peel the backing off the label.
The PTE-300 can print on a variety of labels and can even print on special heat shrinkable tube label – perfect for cable labeling.
The label maker is supplied in a hard carrying case to keep everything organized.
The PTE-300 is awesome and I can highly recommend it. I’ve put a few dozen toner cartridges through my cartridge and it’s still working great. The keyboard is already resistant to abrasion and exposure to harsh weather and chemicals. The device itself has been dropped and bumped a lot, so it still looks like new. Finally, the rechargeable battery still holds a good charge.
