Via Charles Brun: Tyson Fury is yet to vacate his WBC heavyweight belt for a number of reasons despite everything he’s said about retiring from the sport. Why didn’t Fury leave the WBC belt vacant?
WBC #1 Rated Candidate Deontay Wilder is one of the top contenders who will fight for the empty crown when Fury is vacant. We could see Deontay face off against winners Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker if they’d rather go that route for the WBC belt than the WBO belt.
If Fury is to return to the ring, then he needs to tell his fans that he’s not serious about his retirement. He needs to give up his WBC belt if he seriously wants to retire because he can’t sit on it like a hen incubating her eggs.
The fact that Fury hasn’t stripped the WBC belt can be seen as a sign that he’s playing a game with the public, trying to get them to show how much they appreciate him by praising him.
If Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) is serious about retiring, he needs to release his WBC belt by vacating it so the top contenders can fight for it.
Fans have heard that Fury is retiring, so he needs to give up his WBC belt and focus on whatever he wants to do.
While Fury is fun to listen to outside of the ring, he has proven to be a boring fighter inside.
He’s not as excited to watch as other heavyweights like Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk, Deontay Wilder, Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce. Fury’s fighting style involves him throwing slow jabs and power shots followed by grappling for long periods of time.
“I don’t see Tyson retiring forever and I don’t see Whyte rematch,” Gareth Davies told iFL TV.
“Continuing doesn’t matter. Tyson Fury is a two-time Ring Magazine heavyweight champion who has never been beaten,” said Davies in response to Eddie Hearn saying that Anthony Joshua has a better career track record than Fury.
“He had three fights with Deontay Wilder, and he beat [Wladimir] Klitschko when he’s at his best.”
Wladimir Klitschko was NOT at his peak when Fury beat him in 2015. He is 39, battling a new coach at Johnathon Banks after his previous coach, Emanuel Steward, passed away.
To be fair, Wladimir was at his worst when Fury fought him, and it was clear that his accuracy was off in his shots.
Not only against Fury, but in Wladimir’s fights before that, he faced Kubrat Pulev and Bryant Jennings.
“Yes, Joshua had a great run. He beat Klitschko, he beat [Alexander] Povetkin, he beat Pulev, he beat Parker, Whyte, he rematched Ruiz.
“If he can beat Usyk, he’ll be right back there in the challenge if he can find the strength to beat Usyk, he’ll be back there to challenge Fury for the fight. I really think Fury will be back.
“Fury easily has the best career resume. What will happen to three fights with Deontay Wilder for Anthony Joshua? He could have won two of them. I think a fight between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua needs to happen,” said Davies.
