Why did the PGA Tour start a global series of events?

More changes to the PGA Tour schedule coming soon, like ESPN reported Wednesday that an originally planned global series consisting of three international events is being tabulated for the time being.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan originally announced plans for the global series in June, though dates for events have never been set. The events are set to have a limited field with no cuts and a wallet of at least $20 million.

Why is the PGA leaving the global series? According to Wednesday’s reports, the focus is on the 13 tournaments already in the rotation, including the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players, Memorial Tournament, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and three FedEx Cup Playoffs events, just to name a few.

Of course, a lot has happened in the world of golf since Monahan made the initial announcement of the global series in June. The PGA has been working overtime to revise its schedule for the coming seasons as it faces golfers who run away to a rival LIV Golf tournament but keep going. argue to play in the top rated PGA-backed events. Enthusiastic supporters of the PGA have even acknowledged the league is making these changes at a rapid pace to counter an up-and-coming rival, which has fewer events for exorbitant amounts of money.
