Why Chowchilla Bus Kidnapping Survivor Advocates Pardoning His Captor
Larry Park as a child was kidnapped, buried and ransomed with his classmates. He battled defeat for years but eventually found a way to forgive and fought to have his captor pardoned.
Larry Park was only six years old when three men ambushed a bus carrying him and 25 other children in Chowchilla, a town in central California.
The kidnappers buried them under mounds in a ventilated bunker in a quarry for a ransom of $5 million. After about 16 hours underground, the children and the bus driver managed to get out by digging a way out.
