A familiar face will lead Saturday’s parade for GIII Whitmore S. – the race’s namesake. Oaklawn announced in early September that March 19 would be named ‘Whitmore Day’, renamed Hot Springs S. after gelding, and even renamed its longtime home at the track, before this is the barn of the Earl of the Fleet, after him.

Saturday’s scenario required Whitmore to follow the field from the barn area to the track, then enter the fence winner’s circle in the horseshoe-shaped yard, traditionally used for competitions bet, when the horses are being saddled in the lawn. Whitmore, ridden by Laura Moquett, will then lead the following parade for Whitmore S.

“I was running the horse that day and none of them were Whitmore, but at least I had to lead him and all that,” said trainer Ron Moquett. “That’s the thing. That’s what this sport is about. I don’t care if anyone knows me, but I’m very humble so they know him. “

Fans who attend Saturday will receive a commemorative Whitmore baseball card when they enter and a free Whitmore t-shirt, all while in stock, which can be redeemed at the north end of the first floor after the race Tuesday two.
