White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, on Thursday (local time) accidentally referred to President Joe Biden as “President Obama”.

While speaking to the press, Pierre’s moment of slip-up was captured on live television when she accidentally called the incumbent President “President Obama”.

“So today, as you all saw just an hour ago or so, President Obama announced that–Sorry, President Biden!” Jean-Pierre said as reporters shouted in surprise.

“Oh! Ahem, that’s news. I know, we’re going to step back, not forward. We have to move forward,” she said.

She then announced “President Biden” Ajay Banga’s candidacy to lead the World Bank. The White House press secretary said: “The United States has nominated Ajay Banga to be president of the World Bank. President Biden himself has said that he is uniquely equipped to lead the world bank, he is the a well-known business executive who has managed companies that bring jobs and investment to developing economies.

“He (Ajay Banga) has a proven track record in creating public-private partnerships. Growing up in India, he has a unique perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing developing countries. development and how the World Bank can deliver on its agenda for prosperity and poverty reduction,” she added.

Earlier, on Thursday, US President Joe Biden nominated former Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga to lead the World Bank.

“Ajay is uniquely equipped to lead the World Bank at this pivotal time in its history. He has spent more than three decades building and managing successful, global companies that create jobs. and bring investment to developing economies, and guide organizations through periods of fundamental change.He has a proven track record in managing people and systems, while working with global leaders around the world to deliver results,” Biden’s statement read.

Mr. Banga, a business leader with extensive experience leading successful organizations in developing countries and driving public-private partnerships to address financial inclusion and climate change, will be the President of the World Bank.

“He also has significant experience in mobilizing public-private resources to address the most pressing challenges of our time, including climate change. Growing up in India, Ajay has unique perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing developing countries and how the World Bank can deliver on its ambitious agenda to reduce poverty and expand prosperity, ” statement read.

The decision comes after World Bank President David Malpass previously said he would step down almost a year early.

Malpass’s departure comes months after growing calls for him to step down after he refused to acknowledge the scientific consensus that fossil fuels are warming the planet.
