WhatsApp targets Google Meet, Zoom with its new feature

WhatsApp has brought a new feature that allows users to create direct links to calls, both voice and video. This is a common feature on video conferencing apps like LaunchGoogle Chat and Meet, but now it has come to WhatsApp. The feature is named “Call link” allows people to create links to video calls and voice calls and share it with their contacts on WhatsApp.
Tick Zuckerberg bring it Facebook for feature announcements. “We’re rolling out call links on WhatsApp from this week so you can share a link to initiate a call with a single tap,” Zuckerberg said in the post.
One can create links for both voice and video calls and share with their friends or family on WhatsApp chat. The “Create call link” option will appear in the Calls tab.
Users can now join ongoing calls, but the new “Link Calls” feature makes things easier, as users can share the link with everyone and they can join freely by simply clicking on the link.
The “Call Link” feature has started rolling out, so you should see it inside WhatsApp in the coming days.
In the same post, Zuckerberg also confirmed that encrypted video calls for up to 32 participants are being tested. However, there is no word yet on when this will be rolled out to end users. WhatsApp currently allows up to 8 people to join a video call, far ahead of the competition.
The ability to create and share call links and expanded video call capacity could help WhatsApp go against the likes of Google Meet and Zoom.
