A new online scam has been reported in Pune city, Maharashtra, where two brothers lost a whopping amount of Rs 2.45 crore in an online transaction scam through a WhatsApp group. According to reports, a 53-year-old man from Pune and his brother have filed a complaint with Dighi police station over their loss of Rs 2.45 crores in the online transaction scam. The scam included a WhatsApp trading group in which the man and his brother were added. This group assured members of fake profits and urged them to create stock trading accounts and buy stocks. All information about which stocks to buy is provided in the WhatsApp group.
Then the man transferred Rs.16780000 and his brother transferred $7750000 into several different accounts as part of their stock investments. However, they did not know that they were falling into a big scam. The complaint was registered a few months later when the fraudster assured them of a profit of 8 crore. “After a while, they were fooled into believing they had earned it,” police said $8 crore in share trading business. In March, the technician decided to withdraw the money when the suspects told him that he could not do so as SEBI and other agencies had locked his account and it was under surveillance.”
How to be wary of WhatsApp group scams
- If you are added to a suspicious group with many unknown participants, block it immediately and Report the group or person.
- Be wary of groups and people offering unrealistic benefits, discounts, raffles or anything. If it shows urgency then make sure to report the number.
