WhatsApp launches Community feature for Android beta testers: What it is and how it will help users

WhatsApp has continued to add a number of user-friendly features over the past few years to compete with competitors such as Telegram and Signal. Meta has been further developing its instant messaging service as more than a billion people actively depend on the platform. The company recently added some features like – stories in the main chat list and the ability for users to hide their online status – that were not available before.
In April, WhatsApp announced Community This feature is designed as a separate section for users to access multiple related groups. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the company has begun testing the feature with several options Android beta users.

WhatsApp Community Feature: Availability
According to the report, WhatsApp versions 2.22.19.3 (beta) and 2.22.19.2 (stable) are compatible with this server-side implementation. Users can update their apps to the latest version available and will have to wait for the company to roll out the feature for them. Since this is a server-side rollout, there is no way for users to force the feature to appear on their side, the report confirms.
How WhatsApp’s Community will work
Android beta testers who have received this new update will find the old update Camera new tab is replaced with WhatsApp Community tabs section. The report also shared an image showing how the app interface will look after the latest update.
This feature will allow WhatsApp users to create Community and add up to 10 subgroups where each group can include up to 512 members, the report asserts. The report adds that WhatsApp will automatically create a “Notification” group that includes all subgroup members when any user starts a new Community.

The WhatsApp Community feature takes care of sending general messages to everyone at the same time. However, WhatsApp will not initially hide the phone numbers of other participants in subgroups. This will allow other members to see the contact information of co-participants – until WhatsApp releases an update to hide one’s phone number, the report mentioned.
The importance of WhatsApp’s Community feature
The report suggests that WhatsApp’s new Community feature will be useful for users who run a school or neighborhood. This new feature will help them keep all relevant subgroups inside a common hub.
