WhatsApp is back up: Messaging service is back up after shutting down
WhatsApp global messaging service is back to normal after being down.
Issues with the messaging service, which is owned by Meta, began around 8 a.m. BST, leaving users unable to send and receive messages.
Users were unable to send messages, and according to DownDetector, reports of WhatsApp outages were made across North America (including US and Canada), Europe (including UK, France, Spain, Germany). and Italy), along with reports in Israel, India, Australia and many other countries around the globe.
“We’re aware that some people are currently experiencing issues sending messages, and we’re working to get WhatsApp back for everyone as quickly as possible,” a WhatsApp spokesperson told ZDNET.
However, it now appears that WhatsApp messages queued during the outage are being sent and the service is back up, some time just before 10am BST.
“We know people had problems sending messages on WhatsApp today. We have fixed the problem and apologize for any inconvenience,” WhatsApp told ZDNET.
ZDNET has asked WhatsApp to provide details on what caused the problem, but the company has yet to respond at the time of writing.
WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging apps on the planet, with around two billion users globally.
