WhatsApp down: Thousands of people report being unable to use messaging app | Science & Tech News

WhatsApp has been down for users across the UK, with thousands reporting not being able to send or receive messages.

Downdetector, which monitors power outages, said more than 12,000 reports of problems had been sent by 8:30 a.m.

However, the number of users experiencing issues can be much higher due to the way the site collects data.

Many people have used social media platforms, such as Twitter, to complain that the app is not working.

Users noticed that while they could open the app and access their chats, it failed to send new messages or successfully send any messages.

A message keeps showing up for multiple users at the top of the app, saying the app is “connecting” to the server, but then it doesn’t seem to do so.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the UK and worldwide, and is estimated to have over two billion active users globally.

Its parent company, Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, has yet to comment on the matter.
