WhatsApp banned more than 230,000 accounts in India in October, ‘Actively’ banned 8.1 thousand users
Instant messaging and voice over IP service WhatsApp on Wednesday said the company banned more than 23,000 accounts in October, according to a WhatsApp spokesperson. In another statement, they said that up to 811,000 of these 23,000 accounts were actively banned before any reports from users.

This user safety report contains detailed information on user complaints and actions. respectively that WhatsApp has taken, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive action to combat abuse on our platform.”

in one statement released by the company, 26,85,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned from using the instant messaging service from September 1 to 30 this year. Up to 872,000 of these accounts were actively banned, prior to any reports from users.
According to the company’s statement, in addition to responding to and taking action on user complaints through the complaints channel, WhatsApp also implements tools and resources to prevent harmful behavior on the platform. It says, “We’re particularly focused on prevention because we believe it’s better to prevent harmful activity from occurring in the first place than to detect it after harm has already occurred.”
It says abuse detection works at three stages in the life of an account: At registration, during messaging, and in response to the negative feedback we receive in the form of reporting and blocking of user.
A statement from WhatsApp says a team of analysts has enhanced these systems to assess tough cases and help improve our effectiveness over time.
