What parts of car culture need to end?

Look, we’re all car people here. We all love to see the feats of automotive performance or find our home in the culture surrounding four-wheeled transportation. But yes some aspects of this culture which we all know we would be better off without. Let’s name them.

Yes, this topic arose out of discussions about H2Oi event last weekend in New Jerseywhere one accident two left Everyone died. “Enthusiasts” have tried to show off…something. It’s not even clear what their goal is. But the takeovers, street racing and all these car displays hurt the public – they need to stop.

I won’t claim to be perfect here. I attended my fair share of informal gigs, noisy get-togethers, or even street tugs like the gif above. Back in my college days, I mastered the art of moving from parking lot to parking lot around campus, going as much as possible while evading campus security. That even spills out onto the street – when you’re sitting in your rear-wheel drive Toyota, buying tofu at the grocery store, it’s natural to try to pass as much as possible on your way home.

But is that fun? valuable What incredible costs are we starting to see, as cars become more and more powerful for the price? Is it worth paying the price for people who never wanted to be part of our club? When I almost slid the Miata in the gif above into an oncoming tractortrying Baby’s First Drift on my way to work in the rain, have I considered how that trucker would feel if they teased me before their morning coffee?

No. Takeovers need to end. Street races need to end. But what else should be on that list? Tell us in the comments below, and we’ll collect the top answers tomorrow.
