Via Chris Williams: Terence Crawford must make a decision on his next move as his negotiations with A-side boxer Errol Spence Jr failed on November 19.
Crawford (38-0.29 KOs) wants transparency on the cost of the match against Spence (28-0.22 KOs), but there are still doubts as to whether that will happen.
If nothing changes in negotiations for Spence-Crawford, then 35-year-old Crawford will need to move on because he’s been out of the ring for a year since his last fight against janitor Shawn Porter since October 2021.
Unless Crawford wants to throw away more of his career, he needs to give Spence’s side door concessions up to 154 to try to line up to fight the undisputed young middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.
“If your report is correct, Crawford wouldn’t want to insist on it,” Max Kellerman told ESPN in the negotiations between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford for their undisputed clash at 147.
“Are you telling me that’s what’s holding it back, that Al Haymon, who is advising Errol Spence, isn’t assigning Terence Crawford to oversee the expenses or provide transparency of the books? He won’t let him see the book, and that’s why Crawford won’t sign it.
“That sounds like a duck to me. I sound like Al Haymon doesn’t think he’s his guy [Spence] is going to win and is beating Terence Crawford,” said Kellerman.
Mike Coppinger said: “Yes, this is a mess. “They are trying to get through it. They thought they had a deal, and they [Crawford] need to be transparent about expenses because that’s how much Crawford will earn.
“This is a big fight, as you have said over and over again. Of course, Crawford wants to make sure he’s being taken care of, and that’s completely different. Errol Spence sided with Al Haymon. He works with PBC. He’s a huge star in his own right.
“Crawford is seeking transparency in good faith, and so far, they have not been able to reach a provision on that,” Coppinger said.
“Incidentally, I welcome Al Haymon on this show to tell his story. It’s an open invitation,” Kellerman said. “But to me it sounds like a duck. If it wanders like a duck, walks like a duck, it’s a duck,” Kellerman said.
