What is Veo? Meet Google’s next generation AI video creator
AI Image Generator are all the rage in 2023, but now companies are shifting their focus to the next area — AI video generation. With OpenAI launching its AI text-to-video generator, Sora, in February 2024, it was only a matter of time before Google did the same.
On Tuesday, at the annual event Google I/O Developer ConferenceGoogle has unveiled Veo, its most advanced text-to-video generator, capable of creating 1080p videos longer than a minute.
In addition to high-quality output, Google says Veo also gives users “unprecedented levels of creative control.” The AI generator’s deeper understanding of natural language allows Veo to provide more detail from longer prompts and understand cinematic terms like “time-lapse” or “aerial shot.” .

Additionally, video creators can solve a common problem when creating videos — shot fluidity. According to Google, Veo can create consistent footage, with different subjects such as people, animals, and objects moving realistically in the scene.
Google is not new to video creation. The company notes that this model builds on all of its previous video creation projects, including Imagen-Video, VideoPoet, and Lumiere.
Like OpenAI’s Sora, Google’s Veo is not yet widely available. Instead, Google will first share Veo with select creators in a private preview inside VideoFX. However, Google invites you to join one waiting list to finally try the model.
Additionally, Google introduced Imagen 3, its highest quality text-to-image model to date. Imagen 3, which boasts improved image quality and fewer image artifacts, is also limited to private previews inside ImageFX for select creators and has its own mode waiting list.
