Future Summit: What if the world keeps its promises?
What would the world look like if leaders kept their promises to implement internationally agreed goals for sustainable development? The future looks good: no hunger, no pollution, clean air and water, gender equality, no nuclear weapons, and conflicts resolved with diplomacy, not bullets and bombs.
Getting there is just part of the agenda at Summit of the FutureThe flagship event kicks off the Summit Week. On September 22 and 23, 2024, world leaders, civil society and experts will come together to tackle pressing issues, from rising sea levels to ending hunger and more, through a Compact for the Future, which is expected to be adopted at the Summit.

Summit Action Day
To boost the momentum of this global event, the UN Secretary-General is convening the Future Summit. Day of Action on September 20 and 21.
Young people, representatives of member states, civil society and experts will gather to exchange success stories and address challenges and hot topics – building a better society. Electronics, peace And sustainable future for all – as they pave the way for a next chapter of more inclusive and connected multilateralism.

Addressing the threat of rising sea levels
The high-level meeting on sea level rise will bring together global leaders and stakeholders on September 25 to address this urgent and escalating threat.
As head of the United Nations speak “The world needs your leadership” to “show the way” to protect the planet from the ravages of climate change, he said during a visit to the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga last month.
The meeting will focus on building common understanding, mobilizing political leadership and promoting international cooperation and collaboration to address the challenges of building a sustainable and resilient future, including for small island developing states and those living in low-lying coastal areas.

What happens when antibiotics stop working?
That is the question world leaders will tackle on September 26 at a high-level meeting on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which causes more than a million deaths each year.

Towards a world without nuclear weapons
On 26 September, the General Assembly will convene its annual high-level meeting on International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
This annual high-level plenary meeting aims to commemorate and promote the International Day, hearing from all countries, including those affected by nuclear bombs and test explosions.

Focus on Palestine
Amid the ongoing war in Gaza, two events will convene during the High-Level Week focused on Palestinians.
A high-level meeting on education in the Occupied Palestinian Territories – Gaza and the West Bank – is scheduled for September 25, convened by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. On 26 September, a high-level meeting on support for the United Nations relief agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, is scheduled to take place, with the Secretary-General delivering an opening speech on 26 September.
General Debate: Leaders Have Their Say
President of UNGA79 Philemon Duongfrom Cameroon, will open the world body’s annual general debate on September 24, when world leaders will take turns speaking from their national perspectives on this year’s theme: Leaving No One Behind: Working Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.
From 24 to 28 September and on 30 September, high-level representatives of the 193 United Nations member states will take to the stage in the General Assembly Hall to seek solutions to intertwined global challenges to promote peace, security and sustainable development.
Leaders Summit
Long day Leaders Summit on the United Nations Global Compact on September 24 at the Javits Center North in New York dedicated to providing the tools, networks, knowledge and inspiration needed to scale the impact of private sector contributions to Agenda 2030.
Keynote speakers include award-winning actor Don Cheadle and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassador and Amy Webb, Founder and Executive Director of the Future Today Institute and Sanda Okiambo, Assistant Secretary-General of the UN Global Compact.
