What is alkaline water? Naturally Alkaline Water Vs. Ionized Alkaline Water

Bottled water has become a ubiquitous part of our busy lives, but not all bottled water is created equal. 90% of bottled water brands sold on store shelves are RO brands, purified water along with some brands of natural mineral water or spring water. Which should you choose? There is a reason why water producers all over the world prefer spring water and natural mineral water. It comes from protected natural sources and it has a mineral composition and flavor that no other machine or purifier can match. However, a quick google search will lead you to a new category that is taking over – alkaline water. You’ve seen celebrities drink it, athletes endorse it, and the internet dies like healthier bottled water. But what exactly makes water alkaline? Nature or a machine?

What is alkaline water?

The pH level measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0 to 14. Normal drinking water has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water has a pH of 8 or 9. However, the pH alone. alone is not sufficient to impart significant alkalinity to the water. Alkaline water must also contain natural and healthy alkaline minerals. Calcium, magnesium, and potassium are some of the alkaline minerals. Since we don’t produce these minerals in our bodies, we need them in our diet to protect heart health, benefit bone density, aid digestion, and prevent deficiency diseases. as osteoporosis in the long run.

The process by which your drinking water reaches an alkaline pH is more important than you might think. These minerals can come from the earth, or they come from man-made processes. Natural citrate minerals are much more bioavailable than your drinking water. Studies show that almost none of the commonly used methods for demineralizing water after RO filtration can be considered sufficient to have a positive impact on health.

Naturally Alkaline Water Vs. Alkaline Ionized Water: What’s the Difference?

Now the question that arises is, does the artificially produced ionized alkaline water have the same benefits as found in nature? Here are some top tips to help you understand the difference between the two:

In naturally alkaline water, raw water is obtained directly from natural sources. Raw water or springs that run over or underground through rocks, clay and silt from there take in the natural minerals that make the water alkaline and raise the pH. Raw water in artificially produced alkaline water, also known as ionized water, comes from anywhere. Before being put through the Ionizer, it is usually cleaned using RO (Reverse Osmosis) to demineralize the water.

Ionized alkaline water is first purified through a process known as Reverse Osmosis. In reverse osmosis, water is purified using a synthetic liner that filters out unwanted molecules, dirt, and bacteria. This also removes all the essential healthy minerals in the water. The water is then connected to an alkaline ionizer to artificially raise its pH. Naturally, the original alkaline water is pure and rich in minerals because it comes from a protected natural source. Therefore, it doesn’t need the chemical refining process like RO and is bottled directly as drawn keeping its original minerals and flavors intact.

Naturally, alkaline water is enriched with citrate minerals directly from the earth. This means that the minerals in this water are naturally produced and therefore have better bioavailability. In ionized alkaline water, tap water or RO water is run on platinum and titanium plates causing an exchange of ions and making the water alkaline. During electrolysis, the water ionizer splits water molecules into hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH-) electrically to artificially raise the pH. These electronic ionizers adjust the pH to very high levels of 8, 9, and 10 and above, however, this high pH is only temporary and can decrease over a period of time.

In the process of reverse osmosis or RO, in addition to demineralizing and removing essential minerals in the water, almost 74% of water is wasted due to filters and machines. Almost 2 liters of water is wasted from every 1 liter of water filtered with RO. This causes a huge waste of water and causes great damage to the environment. In naturally alkaline water, not a single drop of water is wasted or discarded.

Which is better – Naturally Alkaline Water or Ionized Alkaline Water?

Consuming naturally alkaline water is healthy and hydrating. Drinking naturally alkaline water will replenish your mineral reserves that you were born with or ingested through your diet. On the other hand, alkaline ionized water tricks your body into thinking it is alkaline enough. Since the alkalinity in this water is artificially produced, it tends to decrease rapidly.

In fact, the World Health Organization has warned against drinking demineralized RO water with low mineral content – such as artificially created water. That’s because consuming demineralized or alkaline ion-only water with no minerals and only a high pH has no positive impact on your health.

It is clear that naturally alkaline water is more beneficial to your health and to the environment and therefore should be preferred over ionized alkaline water. Natural mineral water that is ethically sourced from protected sources and whose unique mineral composition makes it alkaline is the best water to consume. Remember that it’s not just the pH that makes the water alkaline, check for the presence of minerals. If it’s natural, it’s a healthier choice than you’re making.

Currently, iodized alkaline water sells for Rs.100 and up. Why buy bottled alkaline ionized water when you can install an ionizer at home? Naturally, alkaline water cannot be made by machine and is beneficial to your diet and lifestyle. If you are buying alkaline water, make sure it is naturally alkaline mineral water that helps you lead a healthy and worthwhile life.
