Zac Efron, 35 years old, has been the subject of speculation about plastic surgery later this year. The actor’s appearance has clearly changed since he played Troy Bolton in Music High School movies and some buzz on social media that it’s because of plastic surgery. Rumors surfaced when Zac looked very different in one video with Bill Nye to promote a Special Earth Day in April 2021. Fans accused Zac of having his jaw repaired, and after months of silence, he finally responded to rumors of plastic surgery in September 2022.
Below, HollywoodLife breaks down Zac’s explanations of his change in appearance and whether he actually had plastic surgery.
What happened to Zac Efron’s Jaw?

Zac had to go to physical therapy to treat his injury, but he spent time while in Australia filming his Netflix show Reality. That’s why he looks so different on Earth Day special from April 2021.
“New massagers evolved,” says Zac. Men’s Health, that was the first time he publicly responded to rumors of plastic surgery. “They’re just really, really big.”
A week later Men’s Health As the story was published, Zac was asked about the “jaw gate” and the accident in an interview with Tonight’s receptionwhile promoting his movie The best beer run ever in Toronto International Film Festival 2022. Zac called the plastic surgery rumors “funny,” before noting the severity of the jaw injury. “It’s so addicting. I almost died, but we are good,” he say.
Does Zac Efron have plastic surgery?
Zac has never admitted to actually getting plastic surgery in his life. He said Men’s Health that he had never even heard of speculation that he had finished his jaw work, until his mother Starla Baskett Call him and ask. “If I appreciate what other people think of me so much that they might think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this job,” he said in the interview.
The Dirty Grandpa the actor recalls how his mother informed him about the “jaw gate” in ET interview. “I’ve never really read the Internet, so – I don’t care,” Zac said. He explained that he only spoke up about the plastic surgery rumors when he noticed the “direction” that the rumors were going.
Zac also explained to Men’s Health that his appearance has changed due to his training to get a swimsuit for Baywatch movie launched in 2017. “That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really achievable,” he said. “There is too little water in the skin. Like, it is fake; it looks CGI’d. And that requires Lasix, the potent diuretic, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. You know, I love having 2 to 3 percent more body fat.”
