What do you want to know about Maserati Ghibli Trofeo?

Maserati today is a bit unusual. The company seems to have intentions expanding the scope of activities to the luxury SUV segment while also following other automakers the road to electrification. But before the car company all into electrification and four-wheel drive driver, it attached a V8 to a Ghibli sports sedan and lent me one to drive around New Jersey.

The Ghibli powered by a V8 engine called Trofeo, and it’s the new top option for Maserati’s sports sedan. It’s a spec that can also be picked up for other cars in the Maserati range, including Levante and Quattroporte.

At the heart of each of these cars is a twin-turbo V8 with direct injection that produces 580 . hp. Designed by Maserati and assembled by Ferrari in Maranello, that engine will power Ghibli Trofeo up to 60 mph for four seconds and switch to a top speed of 203 mph.

To set Trofeo apart from ‘regular’ Ghiblis On the road, Maserati tweaked the exterior styling to increase aerodynamics. The car has a new hood with two vents to aid in cooling the engine, and Maserati says its aerodynamic coefficient drops to just 0.29, a 7% improvement over the original model.

This slick new exterior is also decked out with rich carbon fiber trim, new 21-inch wheels and, for the 2022 model year, a new Maserati logo on the front and C pillar.

Inside the model I will be testing is all the usual goodies of Maseratiincludes a black leather finish with yellow stitching, vented seats, and transparent carbon fiber trim.

I was quite excited as I put the car through its paces. The plan was to leave New York for the countryside in New Jersey and Philadelphia. It might be a trip through some of the undulating roads around the Delaware Water Gap to see how it handles, as well as the highway and town center driving a Maserati owner will likely take. This car passed.

The Ghibli Trofeo that I will be driving comes with a number of aesthetic upgrades, such as painted brakes, carbon fiber interior trim and Alcantara roof lining. There’s also a Bowers & Wilkins sound system and a number of other options that push its price up to $139,500.

So with six figures, what do you want your super sedan to do?
