Wet turf force cancels stake in spa
The classic Saratoga Springs downpour the day before wreaked havoc on the August 24 card at Racecourse Saratogaforced to cancel bets of the day and move five other turf races to the main track, including the $135,000 John’s Call Stakes.
According to Saratoga’s race secretary, Keith Doleshel, Michel G. Walsh Novice Stakes will be brought back on the September 1 card if enough people participate in the race.
John’s call was scheduled to go 1 5/8 mile on Mellon Lawn and moved to 1 1/4 mile on the main track. Hieroglyphs was scratched, leaving a field for five years.
The main track goes fast for Wednesday’s races.
