West Ham supporters accused of racially abusing a Jewish man on flight demand dismissal of the incident | Football news
Two West Ham fans accused of aggravated racial harassment have asked for their cases to be dropped.
Lee Carey, 55, and Jak Bruce, 31, have denied a breach of public order after allegedly singing an anti-Christian song to a passenger wearing an Orthodox Jewish dress on a Ryanair flight from Stansted to Eindhoven.
The pair traveled to Belgium to watch West Ham’s Europa League game against Genk on November 4, which ended 2-2.
Carey and Bruce appeared via video link at Chelmsford Crown Court with two of their attorneys on Thursday, where they filed jointly for the case to be dismissed.
Both lawyers for the duo argued that the court had no jurisdiction over the case under the Civil Aviation Act.
The case has now been adjourned until May 17 while the Crown Prosecution Service reviews the request.
