Welsh woman admits beating baby to death in pram with car


A 70-year-old woman will face trial in two months over a fatal car crash involving an eight-month-old baby. On Friday (September 20), Bridget Curtis is said to have pleaded guilty at Swansea Crown Court in Wales to causing the death of Mabli Cariad Hall, according to BBC.

According to EVERYBODYCurtis’ car hit Mabli as she sat in a pram near the main entrance of Withybush Hospital. A press release A statement from Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the incident took place on 21 June 2023. A few days later, on 25 June, the baby died from a traumatic brain injury. At the time, his parents, Rob and Gwen Hall, said they were “heartbroken” by the death of their sixth child.

“We would like to thank everyone who tried to help us at such a tragic time; those who were present when it happened, the emergency services who came to our aid and the amazing staff at Withybush, the Heath in Cardiff and Bristol Children’s Hospital,” said Rob and Gwen.

The Hall family was in court for Bridget Curtis’s sentencing hearing on Friday, along with other family members. PEOPLE reported that Gwen held a soft toy during the proceedings. Curtis ultimately admitted to driving the BMW dangerously, hitting not only the baby but also her parents and bystanders. It is unclear whether alcohol or any other substances contributed to Curtis’s condition during the crash.

What will the 70-year-old woman do next?

As mentioned, Curtis is scheduled to return to court on November 22 for sentencing, according to UK-based news outlets such as the BBC, The Guardian and Independence.

Judge Geraint Walters has since released the 70-year-old on unconditional bail. However, she has been disqualified from driving and must undergo psychiatric and pre-sentence reports. According to GuardianJudge Walters said:

“You probably understand that the release and the request for a report cannot carry any indication of the sentence that may be imposed on you. You may be released on bail until the day of sentencing.”

Meanwhile, her lawyer, John Dye, assured the court on Friday that his client was “devastated” by the case and had a clean driving record, with no convictions prior to the crash.
