Three separate yellow weather warnings were issued by the Met Office on Wednesday, with strong winds and heavy rain forecast to affect parts of the UK.

Some parts of the country have been warned to face delays on roads, rail and potentially at airports.

Forecasters forecast gusts of 55-65mph, particularly in exposed coastal areas and on higher ground, with some sudden gusts also possible.

A yellow wind warning covers the eastern part of Northern Ireland, parts of Wales and Scotland, the North East and North West of England, and Yorkshire and the Humber from 7am to 8pm.

Forecasters warned of flooding with heavy rain also possible on Wednesday.

The Met Office said there could be some short-term power outages and other services, while it is likely that “some coastal roads, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected.” affected by spray water and/or large waves”.

In Northern Ireland, a yellow warning is in place from 8am to 3pm with 20mm to 30mm of rain likely to fall in some areas before clear skies in the afternoon.

A separate yellow rain warning is in place for south-west Scotland, the Lothian Borders and Strathclyde from 10am to 6pm, with 30mm to 40mm of rain expected.

A speed of 61 mph was recorded at 7 a.m. on Tuesday at Langdon Bay in Kent, while 59 km/h was recorded at Heathrow at 4 a.m., the Met Office said, when windy conditions blow overnight.
