We tried EveryPlate and here’s how it compares to other meal kits

EveryPlate is one Good meal plan subscription service can help you learn more in the kitchen while eliminating the painful task of deciding what to cook for dinner. This is one of many services owned by HelloFresh, a company I’ve also Tried it and liked it.

EveryPlate offers a few different plans. You can spend as little as $45 a week for three meals with two servings each ($7 a serving), or stock your fridge with six meals for six people each week for $150 (or $5 a serving).

Like many other meal kit subscription services, EveryPlate has filters for things like “Smart Calories,” “Quick and Easy,” and vegetarian ingredient options. Each week you will choose your meals from one rotating menu with at least 20 different options. You can skip, pause or cancel your plan at any time in your account settings.

What makes EveryPlate different?

There are some key differences that could make EveryPlate better—or worse—for you and your family.

Unlike most meal kit subscription services, there aren’t any plans for special diets like keto, vegan, or paleo. EveryPlate says this is to keep prices low. Another difference is what the company offers you. Most meal kits require you to provide butter, oil, salt and pepper. EveryPlate may also require you to have foil, parchment paper, or flour — things that most kitchens will still have in stock, but this is an important distinction because of the unusual tableware offerings. doesn’t require you to provide those “additives”. Again, this helps keep the cost of EveryPlate down compared to other tableware. And, unlike some other services that group recipe ingredients together ahead of time, EveryPlate ships your ingredients together in one large box or bag. I separate the dry goods and put everything else in a large freezer bag in the refrigerator drawer. But you’ll have to gather the items yourself, which can be a bit cumbersome in shared refrigerator space with other ingredients. This helps keep prices low and reduce packaging. Overall, EveryPlate is more affordable most other meal delivery services. (And like other services, there are often promotions for new users to reduce prices even further.)

But what does it taste like?

During my testing period, I chose to do Pork ribs with apricot sauce, Penne Mushroom and Tuscan Tomato Garlic PastaAnd Herb butter steak. When I tested the meal kits, I followed the instructions exactly, using only the ingredients provided (unless explicitly noted otherwise due to unforeseen circumstances). I am an experienced chef with an arsenal of All-Clad cookware, one Trusted Kiwi chopping knifeand gas stove. I tried each dish one by one and tasted the recipes with the help of my partner. I jot down our initial impressions and opinions before discussing the dish further.

All the recipes turned out great. Pork chops with couscous and roasted carrots strike the perfect balance between sweet and salty, creamy and chewy. And the penne lets the mushrooms shine, an ingredient that I think is often overpowered by sauces and rich flavors. The end result is that the dishes I make are quite delicious.
