‘We are still living in fear’: Escaping attacks in Lebanon

Khaled Hussein, recorded this video from his home near the Lebanese city of Nabatiyeh. It shows an Israeli air strike hitting just a few hundred meters away and hiding at this base. As the bombings continued, Khaled and his family decided they had to escape. They are now among at least 800 people taking refuge at the United Nations facility in south Beirut after fleeing fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. Since last week, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have killed more than 700 people and forced more than 90,000 to flee their homes. For Khaled, like many who took refuge here, this was not the first time he was forced to flee war. In just a few days, hundreds of these facilities were set up across Lebanon to shelter those displaced by the violence. Many of the people here are Syrian and Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon. For Imad Ahmed, a Palestinian refugee living in southern Lebanon, this is the third time he has had to flee a war with Israel. But this time, he had to do it with his children. Outside, dozens of people hoped to enter but were turned away because the facility had no more space to accommodate them. The growing number of internally displaced people has left Lebanese authorities concerned about an impending humanitarian crisis if fighting continues.
