WBC Responds to Wilder Wanting Joshua to Fight Andy Ruiz Remover
Despite the WBC’s ruling to have Deontay Wilder face Andy Ruiz Jr in the knockout final for the title, Wilder’s team discussed what they considered the better option.
Andy Ruiz, who became the first Mexican heavyweight champion in history, is battling to return to the top spot after he lost his belt in an immediate rematch with Anthony Joshua. He’s about to have an impressive win over Luis Ortiz, and wants nothing more than to be a two-time champion.
Wilder is also a former king of the division. The heavyweight from Alabama held the WBC belt for five years before suffering two consecutive defeats to current champion, Tyson Fury.
Despite charting a clear path to his former title, as well as his fourth fight with Fury, Wilder’s team has made it public. instead they want to negotiate a fight with Joshua.
Mauricio Sulaiman, President of WBC, said Professional boxing fan that in the end it was Wilder’s decision.
“Well, it was their decision that they were in business. We have the verdict and Wilder has been a WBC Champion for 5 years. A great role model, a personal friend and I hope that he has a great future in the ring. He deserves the best and I love him so much. We’ll see what happens.”
As for what missing the fight would do for Andy Ruiz, who is currently second, he declined to offer an alternative at this stage.
“We are not speculating. So once a situation occurs, we can direct it and handle it.
If the opportunity were given to WBC number three, Cuba’s Frank Sanchez we could be just one match away from winning the world title.
With that said, fans have reason to believe Wilder and Joshua’s Negotiations – even if it does reach that stage – may not be as smooth sailing, meaning the Ruiz fight still has a high chance.
