WBC Order Regis Prograis Vs Jose Zepeda for the vacant ultralightweight championship

Regis Prograis was given the opportunity to become a two-time world champion.

‘Rougarou’ with Jose ‘Chon’ Zepeda was launched by the World Boxing Council to compete for their vacant ultralight title.

The title was vacated by former undisputed champion Josh Taylor early last month when he wants to fight Jack Catterall again later this year.

In a statement yesterday, the WBC said:

“The World Boxing Council is asking for a free period of negotiation for José Zepeda and Regis Prograis to go head-to-head for the vacant lightweight world champion title.”

Prograis won the WBC Diamond title in 2018 but became the official world champion in 2019 when he beat Kiryl Beliekh to claim the WBA version with a sixth-round stop.

Following that, the 33-year-old New Orleans tennis player traveled to the UK to face then-unified champion Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series final in London. The Scots won the match against the 2019 nominee of the year, resulting in Prograis’s only career loss to date.
