Amazon used Super Bowl LVI to showcase the first trailer for its ambition The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series. The 60 second teaser gives us a first look at some of the main characters, visual effects and potential action. “Have you ever wondered… is there anything else out there?” a voice content to start it.
Like us learned beforeThe series is set in the Second Era of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of Lord of the Rings. It will be drawing material from JRRTolkien’s Silmarilion, which details key events such as the story of Sauron and the forging of the Ring of Power.
The new teaser briefly shows off some of the main characters including Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova) and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). Other stars include Benjamin Walker, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Joseph Mawle, Sara Zwangobani and Megan Richards.
Amazon spent $250 on the copyright of the material and is reported to have spent $465 million in the first season alone, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s hard to tell from the trailer whether all of that money will make it to screens, but we’ll find out for sure when. coming on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022. The series was refreshed for a second season.
