War as a goddess facing Gufo, the other men in Joe Hirsch

When the New York Racing Association moved Flower Bowl Stakes (G2T) from Belmont Park Autumn meets Racecourse Saratogait creates a gap in the division of the dirty grass and the mares.

As it turns out, it also makes for a fascinating fight between the sexes in the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1T) on October 8 in Belmont at the Big A meeting.

With no bets on the fall top-of-the-line turf for New York mares and mares, trainer Bill Mott was faced with several options for his tier 1 winning mare War Like Goddess .

A person is sending his 5-year-old daughter English Channel to Canada for the Taylor Stakes (G1T) EP on Saturday at Honeysuckle against women, but Mott delivered on that, leaving Joe Hirsch longer at Aqueduct race track as preparation for the final Breeders’ Cup for George Krikorian’s elongated mare.

“We considered The EP Taylor at a mile and a half, and it was number one, but I like Joe Hirsch’s distance of a mile and a half. I think that suits her better,” Mott said.

Facing six stallions on Saturday, Joe Hirsch will be a prep match for the Breeders’ Cup fit for the mare bred by Calumet Ranch. Mott said if all goes well, the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) is at a mile and a half against men on November 5 at Keeneland will be the next step for production Northern Lights mare Foggy North instead of 1 3/16 miles Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T).

“We’re going to Turf if we’re in the Breeders’ Cup,” said the Hall of Fame executive. “Filly and Mare Turf is too short for her.”

Purchased by HND Bloodstock for $30,000 from a Hemingway Racing and Training Barn shipment at the Ocala Breeder Sales Company’s June 2019 sale, next September 3 in the Flower Bowl. Virginia Joy , a race where she was plagued by traffic problems and slow speeds. It was the 5-year-old’s first loss in three games since closing last year in third at the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

“She’s been training really well, and I’m very pleased with her,” said Mott, a four-time Joe Hirsch winner, of the winner of eight of 11 starts, all against women.

If War Like Goddess improves her record by 5 to 5 at the mile and a half with Saturday’s win, she’ll join some pretty exclusive company. The last woman to win Joe Hirsch was the excellent All Along, who won in 1983 when the stakes were last contested at the Aqueduct and became known as the Turf Classic. The list of distaff winners also includes April Run, Anifa and Waya.

As for the boys, coaches Christophe Clement and Chad Brown will both send two warm-ups on Saturday’s stay test.

Clement’s Duo Has Otter Bend Stables’ Gufo 1st class winner in 3rd, 4th, and now 5th place, and 1st place winner The soldier is rising a 4-year-old who is third behind Gufo won the August 27th match of Resorts World Casino Sword Dancer Stakes (G1T) in Saratoga.

“I’m excited to see the two of them perform on Saturday,” Clement said.

Gufo, son of Declaration of war followed by his Sword Dancer victory with a loss first Red Knight at the Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G2T) at Kentucky Downs. He is 9-4-5 years old from 20 starting with an income of $2,169,030.

“Gufo is having a very good race. He is very solid. Even his bad races are good races,” Clement said. “(Owner) Dr Stephen Cainelli is a great man and has been rewarded for being a sportsman and keeping him in training.”

Soldier Rising, a son of Frankel IGB) owned by Madaket Stables, Michael Dubb, Morris Bailey, Wonder Stables and Michael Caruso, is a gem of consistency for Clement. He has finished no worse than third in eight of nine starts since moving from Europe to the United States at the age of 3.

“He’s very consistent, and he should like the distance,” Clement said.

Brown, three-time Joe Hirsch winner, enters 2021 Joe Hirsch winner Rockempang and winner of the United Nations Stakes (G1T) Adhamo . Both horses ran in the Sword Dancer with the eighth Adhamo and the ninth Rockemp the Great on good grass.

Adhamo, son of Intello Madaket Stables, Dubb, Louis Lazzinnaro and Caruso races, while Rockempaster, a Holy Roman Emperor 6 years old, running for Madaket Stables, Dubb, Wonder Stables, Michael Kisber and Caruso.

“I really enjoyed Solider Rising in the last race and Christophe gave him a very high rating,” said Sol Kumin, head of Madaket Stables, said Sol Kumin, head of Madaket Stables. “I don’t think Adhamo likes the soft court at Sword Dancer. We thought about training until the Breeders’ Cup, but Chad’s plan is to run on Saturday and if he likes the surface, he will play. That will depend on the ground for Rockempaster because he doesn’t like soft ground.”

This field also includes Alex G. Campbell’s Bye Bye Melvin (Uncle Mo ) and class 2 winner by John MB O’Connor Astronaut (Quality Sugar ).
